I am an executive recruiter and I love what I do. When a placement comes together, great things happen: a great person gets a great job and a great company gets a great new employee.

After a long career in media sales and sales leadership with some of the best publications in the country, I woke up one day and realized that my business, which ran on relationships, was no longer functioning in the same way. I felt like a dinosaur. I also didn’t have a clue as to what else I could be doing.

At that point, my darling bride (who was always smarter than me) said, “You’re always helping people find jobs. Why don’t you start getting paid for that?” So, after a serendipitous introduction, I joined an executive recruiting firm and have now been a successful recruiter for well over ten years.

I eventually started my own private practice with a partner I have known since we both started in the media business. PointClear Search has offered me the opportunity to remain focused on building relationships, one of the key motivators in my life.

My friends ask me why I haven’t retired or when I intend to retire. I really don’t have an answer for that. I like what I do, I continue to be engaged with people I really enjoy, and I am helping people all along the way.

Life is good. Let me help make yours a little easier. Feel free to contact me and let’s talk about how PointClear Search can help your firm.

Throughout my career sales leadership career with national publications, I have recruited, hired, trained and mentored countless people, many of whom became successful leaders with great corporations. After working for some of the best companies in the world, I decided it was time to take those skills, strike out on my own and become an executive recruiter. I can truthfully say it was one of the best decisions I ever made.

Early in my career, I met an executive recruiter who shared a story that stuck with me all these years. He had presented the “perfect candidate” to his client, someone who had been laid off by a key competitor. The CEO rejected his candidate and told him to go back to the competitor and convince the remaining team member to join his client’s company. I learned a valuable lesson at the time: always search for the most desirable person for the job, not the most available.

Our guiding principle at PointClear Search has always been to seek out the most desirable and qualified candidates for placement. We always keep these questions in mind: is this candidate the best fit for the company and is the company the best fit for the individual? Does this candidate have the skill set and the desire to excel in this job?

Roger and I have placed senior sales executives, media CEOs, Publishing CROs and senior marketing executives. We have partnered with many clients whose core business is less familiar to us and still achieved great results. We even filled the top job at the local boy’s hockey club. PointClear Search is successful at identifying outstanding individuals who display a passion for what they do, a desire to do better with every step they take, and the character to lead. Our hallmark philosophies haven’t failed us yet.

The pertinent career facts:

My leadership roles in traditional media sales at The Wall Street Journal and Newsweek  led me into the emerging world of digital media at Microsoft’s MSN. Seven years ago I became a recruiter and found my true calling. I am an active blogger, a newsletter author, a frequent contributor to LinkedIn and a regular guest on the podcast, Business Class News.  I’ve held board positions with the Dallas-Fort Worth Advertising Association (founding President), AAF Dallas and the UGA Alumni Association Dallas Area Chapter-DFW Dawgs. I was recognized by DFWAA for outstanding service with the Lifetime Achievement Award. I hold a B.A. in Journalism from the University of Georgia and an M.B.A. from Kent State University.

If I had to pick one word to define myself, it would be “lucky”. Through the years, there have been countless times when what appeared to be a chance encounter or experience changed the course of my life for the better. At the time, it was hard to see how fortuitous a situation was because it seemed like the worst possible thing that could have happened.

At a very young and naive 28, I suddenly found myself in a predicament I never expected. Newly divorced with two young daughters, I hadn’t worked since college. Panicked and stuck, or so I thought, I found an entry-level job in the retail world. As “luck” would have it, I found my calling. Within four years, my inquisitive and determined spirit advanced me to the role of general manager of a Lord & Taylor department store.

Because of another chance encounter, I joined the luxury retailer Neiman Marcus.  I loved that job too. In fact, it was the beginning of a 25+ year career which included managing several full-line stores, leading the start-up of the NM e-commerce business, and then moving on to run the multi-channel Last Call stores. And while I at NM, I met my wonderful husband when he called on me to sell some advertising. “Luck” was at it again.

Recently I began working with PointClear Search as Chief Marketing Officer. Never being one to shy away from a new challenge, it’s a great outlet for my creative side and I love it. In addition, I mentor many clients, developing job search strategies and helping with resume content, biographies and interview techniques.

Someone once told me that the definition of luck is when preparation meets opportunity. I suppose on some level that must be true, but I continue to think actual “luck” has something to do with it.

How can I help you? Let’s talk.
